Summer Series: Part I – Teriyaki Steak

School’s out for the summer. After all the snow days, school quarantines, online learning, summer is finally upon us. These last few years of being in Colorado, I am really getting into the idea of summer. Using ‘summer’ as a verb, is pretty much the best. Moving a little slower, living a little more relaxed, taking some time to breathe from the 8-5 at work. (Still squeezing in the 40 hours, but definitely taking a little more advantage of flex and vacation time!) I always wondered why/how people would leave NYC for the Hamptons when summer came and the rush back in after Labor Day weekend. I always thought that was just for TV viewers. (Not the case, I’ve been there over Labor Day weekend, I’ve watched the traffic flood back into the city.)

Living in Florida there isn’t a transition between seasons, it just kind of goes from hot to hotter. ‘Summer’ was a little less verb then. Don’t get me wrong, I could spend every day laying out of the beach, but being in Orlando, its a jaunt out there. And there is just something a little magical about the trees growing back, perfect sunshiny days at 72 degrees with minimal humidity. It just goes to show, I’ve been spoiled by the best of it all.

So, aside from our normal globalkidchen adventures and trying new dishes, we are going to start a summer series, of our favorite summer dishes, perfect for deck side dinners. Brace your self, Chris loves to use the entire season for as much grilling as possible. The summer garden has been planted, and I am (kinda, sorta) pretty good with a tomato plant. We’ll start this week off with some Teriyaki Grilled Skirt Steak.

Grill the steak to your own liking, but the skirt steak is an awesome choice for this marinade! We made a second batch of the marinade to use for grilling vegetables! Add some fried rice and kimchee for a fully Asian inspired dinner!
